I've just spent my first full day on the other side of the equator, this the water does go down the drain the opposite way but apart from that it's not a huge culture shock. After arriving from a European winter to a baking hot, cloudless city, I got the 2 hour airport bus (2 pesos/€0.40) rather than the air conditioned minibuses (50 pesos/€10) to my modern hostel in the centre of the city, in the barrio of San Telmo.
After a bit of a rest & a shower I went out to Adrogué, 23km south of Buenos Aires to meet up with some of the bands who are playing a gig tomorrow night. After being advised to avoid the train, I ended up on an unmarked minibus surrounded by commuters going home from work. But after an hours drive I ended up in the leafy town where I was met and brought for beers, music, fernet & empanadas. Another minibus van back to the city around midnight, to spend my first night in Argentina. A fantastic welcome to what appears to be an amazingly friendly and interesting capital city.
